We meet our guide in Sultanahmet Square, the heart of the old city, with the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia facing each other across the gardens. We begin with a small challenge: telling the domes and the minarets of the two monuments apart, looking at their shapes and counting them. It is an easy start that gets children looking up and asking questions straight away.

Full Description
Istanbul’s old city works like an open-air playground for curious children, and that is how we walk it. Our private family tour of Sultanahmet turns the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia into a story told through games, and every stop comes with something to find, to count, or to guess.
We meet our guide on Sultanahmet Square and start with a small challenge: telling the domes and the minarets of the two monuments apart. From there we cross the Ancient Hippodrome, where we picture the chariot races and the roaring crowds of Constantinople, and stop at the Obelisk of Theodosius to hunt for hieroglyphs and work out how a monument from ancient Egypt ended up in Istanbul.
The Blue Mosque comes next. In the courtyard we count the minarets, look up at the arches, and go over the simple rules that help us visit a working mosque with respect. Inside, the children go looking for floral and geometric patterns in the decoration, and we explain where the name Blue Mosque comes from. Families keep their own pace, and our guide has spent years leading groups with children, so questions are always welcome.
We finish at Hagia Sophia. Outside, we follow the story of the building through emperors, sultans, and the changes made over the centuries, looking at its architecture as the story unfolds. Up in the visitor gallery we admire the great dome and search for details in the mosaics, and we close with a short quiz on everything we discovered during the tour. Parents take part the whole way, and children from 5 years old follow comfortably, strollers included.
The tour lasts about 2 hours and runs privately in English, Italian, Spanish, French, and German, in the morning, afternoon, or evening. Hotel, airport, and train station pickup can be arranged on request, and we confirm the meeting point after booking. Entrance tickets are included, and children pay the same rate as adults.
