Tour Details
Full Description
Vienna is a city that can be read in a single walk, and that is how we explore it: from the music that made it famous to the palaces and squares of the Habsburgs. Our private Vienna tour with a local guide follows the heart of the old city, with the Opera at the start and the Cathedral at the end.
We begin in front of the Vienna State Opera, the theater that has shaped the musical life of the city since the nineteenth century, and we use it to introduce Vienna and the role music plays here. From there we move to the Albertina and its terrace for a view back over the Opera, then into the Burggarten, the imperial garden where the Mozart monument stands among the lawns.
The central part of our walk belongs to the Habsburgs: the Hofburg and Heldenplatz, the great monumental square at the edge of the imperial residence, and the story of the family, Sisi, and the court that governed much of Europe from these rooms. A short step away is Michaelerplatz, with the monumental entrance of the palace on one side and Roman remains below street level on the other.
We continue along Kohlmarkt, the elegant historic shopping street, passing the pastry shop Demel, and reach the Graben with its Plague Column, one of the most theatrical stretches of the city and the best place to read the Baroque phase of Vienna. We close the walk at Stephansplatz, in front of St. Stephen's Cathedral, with its Gothic architecture and its colorful tiled roof.
We run this tour privately, in the morning, afternoon, or evening, with availability in English, Italian, Spanish, French, and German. Hotel, airport, and train station pickup can be arranged on request, and the meeting point is confirmed after booking. Because the walk belongs to one party at a time, we can give more time to the squares guests care about and keep the pace easy.
