    Itinerary

    • Our visit starts at the gate, where two pavilions stand like something from a storybook: curved roofs, rough stone, and bright tile work above the doors. Gaudí built them as the entrance to a garden city that Eusebi Güell imagined and that never came to be, and the whole Park Güell project begins here. We look at the roofs, the ironwork, and the details that show how the commission changed the hill.

    Tour Details

    Full Description

Park Güell opens the story of Gaudí in Barcelona from the top of a hill, with the city spread out below and the sea in the distance. On this private tour we begin among the mosaic-covered pavilions at the entrance, then walk down through the park Gaudí designed with Eusebi Güell, following the path that leads from the gate to the terrace and on to the houses he built along Passeig de Gràcia.

The Dragon Stairway sets the tone: one celebrated salamander in trencadís, the broken-tile mosaic that became Gaudí’s signature, and a first look at how he turned ordinary materials into something alive. Above it the Hypostyle Room holds eighty-six columns under a ceiling of ceramic circles, and Nature Square stretches out with its serpentine bench, where the whole park reads as a landscape rather than a building.

We slow down in the green parts too. The Laundry Room Portico leans its columns like tree trunks, and the Austria Gardens give the walk shade, birdsong, and views over Barcelona. These are the places where Gaudí’s ideas about nature as a model for architecture become easiest to see.

Outside the park, the tour follows the career rather than one monument. We stop at Casa Vicens, his first house, covered in ceramic tiles and built for a family of tile merchants, then reach Casa Milà, La Pedrera, with its undulating stone facade and iron balconies that look like seaweed. Passeig de Gràcia connects them, a boulevard where Barcelona’s new bourgeoisie competed for the most daring facades, and where the Illa de la Discòrdia sets three modernista houses side by side.

We finish in front of Casa Batlló, where the roof curves like a dragon’s back and the balconies seem to float free of the wall. The visit lasts between two and four hours and stays private, so we keep the pace of the group and stop where the details deserve it. Entrance tickets to Park Güell are included; food and drinks are not, and pickup from the hotel is available at an extra cost. Tickets for the other houses can be added on request.
