Itinerary
-
We meet our guide on Sultanahmet Square, the open space at the heart of the old city, with the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia facing each other across the gardens. We start by reading the two buildings from the outside, comparing their domes and minarets and the centuries that separate them. From here the whole route unfolds on foot, and we set the pace together.

Full Description
Hagia Sophia has stood at the center of Istanbul for fifteen centuries, and we follow that story across Sultanahmet. Our private tour with a local guide pairs the Blue Mosque with the great church opposite it, moving from the chariot races of the Hippodrome to the mosaics of the upper gallery, and the thread stays the same from the first stop to the last.
We meet on Sultanahmet Square, where the two monuments face each other across the gardens, and set off at our own pace. The Ancient Hippodrome comes first, the long esplanade that once held the chariot races of Constantinople, and then the Obelisk of Theodosius, carried here from Egypt and still standing on its carved marble pedestal. Reading the square this way turns a walk of a few hundred meters into the story of a capital.
The Blue Mosque is the next step: its courtyard, with the minarets above and the arcades around us, and then the interior, where the tiles and the light give the building its name. We explain what happens here during prayer and what visitors can and cannot do, so the visit stays comfortable and respectful.
We close at Hagia Sophia. Outside, we follow the building through emperors, sultans, and the changes made over the centuries, and we look at the architecture as the story unfolds. We then reach the visitor gallery, where the great dome opens above the hall and the mosaics survive from the Byzantine years.
The tour runs privately and lasts from 2 to 4 hours, depending on the pace and on how long we spend inside the monuments, with availability in English, Italian, Spanish, French, and German, in the morning, afternoon, or evening. Hotel, airport, train station, and port pickup can be arranged on request, and we confirm the meeting point after booking.
